Nepal-China Relations Strengthened Through PM Oli's Visit

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that his recent four-day official visit to China has further solidified Nepal-China relations, paving the way for significant benefits for Nepal.

Speaking at a press conference held at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return, PM Oli emphasized the strengthening of bilateral ties through agreements made under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He noted that these agreements, once implemented, would bring substantial benefits to Nepal.

“Various agreements were reached on projects under the BRI framework, and further discussions will be held for specific project implementations,” PM Oli said.

During the visit, a cooperation framework agreement on the BRI was signed in Beijing by Nepal's Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amrit Bahadur Rai, and Vice Chair of China’s National Development and Reform Commission, Liu Sushe. The signing ceremony was attended by PM Oli and his Chinese counterpart, Premier Li Qiang.

Key agreements include:

-Construction of the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel Way.
-Promotion of trade and export of thermally processed buffalo meat from Nepal to China.
-Exchange of certificates marking the completion of the restoration of the historic Nine-Story Durbar Square building, a project undertaken by China.
-Initiatives in industrial infrastructure development, economic and technological aid, and mutual assistance.
Discussions also addressed various areas of cooperation, including connectivity, agriculture, tourism, investment, science and technology, sports, natural disaster management, and poverty alleviation. Efforts to expand people-to-people relations between the two countries were also highlighted.

PM Oli underscored Nepal’s commitment to fostering deeper cooperation with China to enhance economic development and mutual prosperity.
